XI. VilágVeleje Festival – 20-23 January 2010

VilágVeleje Fesztivál (World Gutts’ Festival) is organised now the 11th time. The real festival period in Budapest traditionally starts with this all arts festival!

The festival was organised the first time 11 years ago at Almássy Téri Cultural Centre under the name Világ Eleje Festival (Festival of the Beginning of the World) referring to the new possibilities opening up after the hysteria around the new millennium. From its second year on, the festival has been borne the name VilágVeleje Festival (World Gutts’ Festival). The organisers invited the best and most exciting Hungarian artists and the festival gradually became more and more successful, attracting ever more visitors to Gödör Klub.
During the four days of the festival the focus will be on contemporary pop music and live concerts, but the audience will be able to enjoy other genres, too.

Seven young artists’ recent works will be exhibited at the Young Artists’ Exhibition. The concerts will take place in Gödör’s Café and Acquarium Hall, while most of the theatrical pieces, performances will be showed in the Performance Hall.
The artists are selected from last year’s most successful bands, theatre- and dance performers.

20 January

Wednesday, day 0 of the festival starts with the lecture of dr. Elvira Lux, sexual psychologist.

Then comes Fugato Orchestra, which is going to be a real favourite of the music lovers. They play progressive symphonic jazz-rock without genre limits and conventions but carefully keeping up to the standards of classical music. What makes their music unique is the combination of symphonic instruments with drums, bass guitar, keyboard. They will play some heavier symphonic pieces, jazz and rock pieces, experiments with style inherited from the Middle-Ages and keyboard fantasies.

The band Balaton is an inevitable performer of VilágVeleje Festivals. Their record containing the last 30 years of the band’s work and having also four new songs, has just appeared in the record shops. The backbone of this concert will be these new songs, composed by Mihály Víg.

The last concert of day 0 is Korai Öröm. The most important Hungarian underground band has been touring the world with its joyous music for twenty years. Their music continuously renews and reconstructs itself, while it does not try to follow fashion. The band only plays what comes instinctively to the eight or ten members of the band or to the whatever number their formation actually plays in.

21 January

On Thursday  we are happy to welcome the most recent talent, Biorobot on stage! The beat band has four members and plays songs that Robi Bérczesi (hiperkarma /own band/) and András Nemes (Pluto /own band/) wrote together. Other members of the band are Kati Szöllössy, the coolest bass guitarist woman of the world, and Ádám Gálos, the drummer of Kistehén band.

Then comes Pál Utcai Fiúk, working on new songs, too so we might get a snapshot of the new PUF songs at the concert. The next band is Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra with an album debut concert.

In between the concerts, the perfomances of Willany Leo, the increasingly popular improvisational dance theatre of Gödör Klub, will be on stage. Once the concerts are over, DJ Onoff keeps entertaining the public.

On Friday another newcomer starts the evening. Intimtorna (Intimacy Gymnastics) covers the members of the parted Kistehén TáncZenekar, namely Sándor Kiss – bass, Péter Dorogi – guitar, Ádám Gálos – drums, János Nádasdi  – percussion. This will be their debut concert.

The Twist was established in 2008 by the two guitarists of Heaven Street Seven, Krisztián Szűcs and Zsolt Ábráhám, the bass guitarist of Amber Smith, Oszkár Ács Oszkár and the percussionist, Gergő Szőcs who used to play in Mystery Gang, Jazzékiel and Realistic Crew. The songs, most of them inspirations of Krisztián Szőcs, are enough now to make a good concert so come and enjoy it!

Certainly there is a performance tonight, too: Andrea Ladányi, Gergő Borlai and Gábor Vida will give a short introduction of Andrea Ladányi’s Dance Group’s new piece, „Demo.”
Then comes Zagar, which concerts always feel like a big celebration. In October the German Mole Listening Pearls released their new single, „Wings of Love with the American Bossasaurus remix 7”, available on Bakelite and downloadable from all bigger web platforms (iTunes, AOL, Amazon, Virgin, Beatport..stb). This is followed by Cannot Walk Fly Instead Special Edition 12 with Wings of Love Remix, double CD, exclusive edition.
After the concerts, DJ Suhaid plays till the early hours.

23 January

On Saturday, the final day, colorStar Akusztik is making its debut. ColorStar, established in 1996, has played a mixture of electronic music and psychedelic pop-rock. Even when experimenting with musical instruments, they many times turned to electronic music. MR2 Petőfi Radio’s invitation to their programme, Akusztik was an exciting challenge to the group: how can their music full of gadgets, composed by samplers, adjusted with mechanic accuracy function through an absolutely different medium, the world of traditional, acoustic instruments? Following the intensive rehearsals that lasted for weeks and thanks to the illustrious guests (Robert Farkas - accordion, violin, guitar, Ákos Kerényi - percussions, vocal, Gergő Katona - trumpet, pozan/trombone, vocal, Tamás Soós - saxophone, flute, vocal) who participated in the formation, the outcome of the experiment was above expectations and the formation is apparently starting its own way now…

The final day also gives a possibility to look into the world of circus through the performance of Hippodrom Circus Group – circus show. After them, Erik Sumo Band comes with Kiss Erzsi. The band was formed by Ambrus Tövisházi in 2005 with the following band members: Veronika Harcsa, Ambrus Tövisházi, Zoltán Farkas, Ádám Mészáros, Gergely Drapos and István Pápai. Their second album was released in September in Hungary and one of its song, Disco In My Head, is already a big hit.

At the Young Artists' exhibition, which will be viewable for 2 more weeks after the festival, the following people will attend: Csilla Nagy, painter; Andrea Mátyus and Judit Márton photographers; Krisztián Nagy Balázs, concept art; Dávid Szalay sculpture artist; Lili Rontó graphic artist.

Entrance tickets for day 0 can be purchased at the door for 1000 HUF. Tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday can be purchased in advance for 1800 HUF in Gödör Klub’s Café or ordered via our homepage. Day tickets can be purchased on the day at the door for 2200 HUF.
