EU LOVES YOU – 8 of May – trailer

Europe loves everyone especially on its 50th birthday! Even those celebrators who have no idea which is the anthem of the EU. This is what you can find out from our trailer where Krisztián Szűcs is surprised to hear that such thing exists. Maybe this will also be heard on the 8th performed by several artists where the entire Erzsébet square can get together on a happy mass celebration! This is a double celebration because Hungary joined the Union almost exactly 6 years ago.

Chalaban

Chalaban

Chalaban Band was founded in Budapest by the Moroccan musician Said Tichiti in 1998. The band is very dynamic in the world music scene in Central and Eastern Europe. The Band is testing a very original opening of the Moroccan music to the music traditions of Central Europe, Balkan and gypsy styles.

The group's leader, Said Tichiti is originally from city of Guelmim in the south of Morocco. He finished his High studies on Drama Institute of Rabat. He chose at the beginning of his musical adventure to work on musical styles of his paternal and maternal origins: Gnawa, Ganga, Hassani, and Guedra. This work goes beyond folk vision to create a merger between instruments and melodies of south and north, east and west. The result is that each Chalaban concert / album is full of desert and spirituality caressed by melancholic melodies of Central Europe ending with an air of trance. Chalaban has 4 albums until now: Moroccan Nomad, Moroccan Spring, Al Baraka and Nejdeb.

Chalaban Band:
Said Tichiti – guembri, lyre, voice, percussions
Khaled Moutahir – mandolin, voice, percussions
Torják Dávid – bass guitar
Kovács Bálint – guitar
Lázár Tibor – drums
Vázsonyi János – saxophone
Jelasity Péter – saxophone
Abdulaziz Gob – percussions

Parno Graszt

“When I go into the pub I hit the piano.” – this is the first line of the first song on the first Parno Graszt album, which was released in 2001 and since then everybody is receiving it the same way: nodding heads, arms in the air, smacking fingers and starting the crazy dance. All of this in the tempo of 160 per seconds.

They have collected their musical material from Paszab, their birth place and they are still living there, far away from the city’s noise. That is how their music could keep its ancient, alive character and the people their honest, genial personality.

Their songs were at many national and international gypsy music festivals. Their music flew all the way to India in 2008: They were searching for their musical roots, songs, people, habits in the presumed primeval home of gypsies, Radzsasztán.

There is a documentary of this wonderful journey which soon will be released on dvd.

Members of the band are:

Oláh József – vocals, guitar, tambura
Oláh Viktor – vocals, guitar, dance
Balogh Géza – vocals, guitar, dance
Horváth Sándor – vocals, spoon, dance
Jakocska János – vocals, guitar
Balogh Mária – vocals, dance
